About Image Background Remover Online

This tool detects the subject of an image — typically a person, product, or other foreground object — and removes the background, producing a transparent PNG. The detection uses a machine-learning segmentation model that handles complex edges like hair and fur reasonably well.

Background removal is one of the most common photo-editing tasks: preparing product images for e-commerce, creating profile pictures with custom backgrounds, isolating subjects for graphic design, and producing transparent assets for video editing or presentations.

The result is a PNG with an alpha channel. You can drop the cutout onto any background, composite it into another image, or use it directly in apps that support transparency.

How to use this tool

How to remove a flat background from a photo

  1. Upload the photo

Drop the image into the Image field. Works best with subjects on a fairly uniform backdrop — studio photos, white cyclorama, or solid coloured walls.

  2. How the removal works

The tool estimates the border colour (median of edge pixels), then removes regions connected to the frame that look close to that estimate. This is NOT AI matting — fine hair, glass, or subjects matching the backdrop won't separate cleanly.

  3. Tune "Border color match"

edgeTolerance (8–72, default 24) is the max RGB-channel difference from the estimated border colour. Lower it when too much of your subject vanishes; raise it when the backdrop is still visible.

  4. Press Run and check the note

Output is a PNG with transparency saved as subject-transparent.png. If the note warns that almost everything or almost nothing was removed, adjust the tolerance and run again.
